Isabella Elizabeth “IVY” was a noblewoman in Burgundy in 15th century France. While a member of the court in Burgundy, one of the most extravagant in Europe at the time, Isabella chose not to engage in the frivolous distractions and idle gossip most nobility enjoyed. Rather, she immersed herself in the diplomatic and political culture of court life. While at court, she was instrumental in arranging powerful marriages between members of the Burgundy court and European royalty, strengthening France’s position in Europe and Burgundy’s position within France. However, throughout her tenure as a noblewoman she maintained an ardent appreciation for art, poetry and fine wine. After her retirement from court Isabella spent her final years in a secluded château enjoying wines from the Burgundy region.
